Finding Inspiration in Unexpected Places: The Power of Acknowledgment

How did a complete stranger's acknowledgment leave me overwhelmed with emotion, bringing me to tears?

I have been diligently working with a personal trainer, consistently attending our twice-weekly sessions, and spending an additional 3-4 days in the gym. It has been nine months of committing to the gym, enduring 4:30 am wake-ups, dealing with aches and pains, not to mention the substantial time and financial investment. It's been a mental challenge, constantly questioning if my knees will hold up, ensuring I don't compare myself to those much further along in their fitness journey, and giving myself pep talks about deserving my place here, regardless of my size. I embarked on this journey for myself, with the goal of showing up, reducing knee pain, and regaining flexibility lost due to autoimmune disease and surgeries.

Despite my unwavering commitment, I found myself growing increasingly frustrated with the lack of visible progress. Doubt crept in, and I began to question why I was putting myself through this. In a moment of vulnerability, I succumbed to a pity party, convinced that no one had noticed my efforts and questioned if it even mattered? Then, out of the blue, an older gentleman approached me yesterday at the gym and said, "I see you showing up every day. You're doing great! Keep going; you've got this!" In that moment, I felt validated, seen, and appreciated in a way that words cannot fully express.

So today, I encourage you, my friends, to consider what you might be thinking about others but not saying when you see them showing up, working hard, or doing well. A few words of encouragement and acknowledgment, a simple "I see you," can have a profound impact beyond your imagination. Be courageous, recognize it, and express it.
